Pa GedQ. What is the earliest grade after which one is allowed to get a GED and enter college/ university as a freshman (it's presumably not possible to enter as a sophomore)? A. the honor roll student, is a dropout at the time he the takes the GED test. After the dropout passes the GED they are a General Education Development graduate (or whatever is the nomenclature). Now the student needs to take the SAT and get into a college or trade school. All manner of state, county, and school board laws, regulation, and rules apply. For example a 16 year old GED graduate with an excellent SAT may not be able to attend any state supported college in the students home county, or state. If the student moves to another state, he may go to college there if the college allows this. The college might disallow based on its own policy, or by local law, or by state law. The problem is that local laws apply locally and that there is great variations on allowing students under 18 into college. IN Texas, in the 1980s, a student could get a GED at 16 and go to just a community college out of there home county (a county is the level that makes the rule for the need to go out of county), or g ot of state and play by other rules and laws altogether.
