Does anyone know of any college-level courses in Celtic History or Culture?
Q. Does anyone know of any college-level courses in Celtic History or Culture? I would prefer accredited but I would look into others as well. I am particularly interested in an online or correspondence course. Have to take some electives for school, and I don't have time to fit them in around my music classes so I want to take a course during the summer. And Irish or Celtic history/culture is something I thought I might actually be interested in.
A. - University of California, Berkeley actually has a Celtic Studies *program* that you can major in, believe it or not: http://ls.berkeley.edu/dept/celtic/ I don't know about online/correspondence courses (I'd be inclined to doubt it, though you could always call them up and ask them). - My sister took a summer course in Appalachian Studies from East Tennessee State University. They spent six weeks in Scottland studing the Celtic roots of Mountain music. It's been about 10 years ago but I think it's still offered. - The University of St. Michael's College (affiliated with the University of Toronto) has an undergrad Celtic Studies degree program. Whether it is available by distance education you'd have to contact them to find out.
