Nys GedQ. I'm trying to figure how I can get a GED for my son, 14, so that he can take community college courses here in NYS without having to pay out-of-state fees. Here in our county you have to be a graduate or have a GED to get the county to pay its portion of the tuition. Unfortunately NY won't let a 14 year old take the GED. I don't want to "issue" a certificate since my son is still doing high school work in some subjects (although he could easily pass the GED). Could you guys let me know what the GED requirements are in other states? We would be willing to go out-of-state to get one if need be. A. As the GED exam does not cover Science, History, or any of the other core subjects that you are required to take to get a HighSchool or Regents diploma in NYS. Nor is there a PE requirement. Maybe in your state, however, here in NY, a student with a GED in any NYS institute of higher learning is REQUIRED to take the remedial course.
