Nursing Continuing Education Home Study
Q. I became an RN in 1985 with an ADN. I went back to school and got my BA in Psych in 1991 and then continued on and got my Master's in Psych in 1995. I did this to have 'something to fall back on' incase I ever decided to leave nursing. It's been almost 14 yrs since I became a nurse and I still love nursing. However, with my advance degree in Psych, I find it impossible to advance any further in my career. I am now considering enrolling in a home schooling program as a bridge to get my MSN. The closest college I could attend is 1 1/2 hours away. I would be interested in hearing from others about their experiences in pursuing home study.
A. I am a nurse with an MS degree who just finished my postmaster's certiciate for my FNP and am continuing on in school for my PhD. All these courses for degrees and certificate were taken as distance learning and outreach. I live 250 miles from a university that grants advances degrees and certificates, so the area health education center-working in conjunction with the state universities, offers courses via telecommunication, or the instructors come for weekend type classes. The PhD part of this is somewhat frustrating, and I do go to the city for some of the courses. If you would like to know more about this feel free to email me . You might also contact your state universities to see what type of distance learning they might have. Alot of states are moving toward telecommunication as a way to for students in rural sites to receive advanced education.
