Free Ged Tests

Q. There are a number of distance learning school sites on the Internet. Academy Central is one more - a new one that is just now building. Anyone who wants to can "take" the various courses that are now and will be presented there at no charge (many are from "free" links). Those who are interested in gaining a diploma can also do so at a low cost set to cover the expense of recordkeeping and tutoring via E-mail. You all are invited to come take a look at our new (and temporary) web site: http://www.academycentral.homestead.com We expect to soon move over to a commercially hosted site using our registered URL, academycentral.org. Not all courses are up and running, but many are. Your opinions will be most highly valued.

A. With a GED one can go to any college that will accept you as their student. Typically, community colleges will do so. GED tests are now administered at "registered" centers and there is a charge for test administration. There are free facilities on the Internet to assist in studying for the GED exam. Entering the armed forces with a GED is a tricky business these days. Years ago, one did not need a GED to enlist. Then the GED became the minimum. Today, a person can enlist if lucky... the luck being that there is the tiniest allowable quota for GED enlistees... usually filled early in January of each year. About 5 to 10 GED holders came to our very small private school each week asking for help toward gaining their high school diploma because the Air Force and the Navy had refused them enlistment without one. Times have changed. You should rightfully be proud that you served your branch of service well and, after a long time of that, retired. You are correct to point with pride at your friend who graduated from University of Texas Dental School and who has a successful practice. On a personal level, my father completed school only to the 8th grade and became a very fine registered architect in New York State (which has strict standards for professionals). It can be done, but it was far easier to do it way back when than it is today. Academy Central hopes to help people say once more, "It can be done." As another possible point of interest, anyone can participate (use) our course materials, most of which we have thus far obtained from existing Internet providers. There is no charge to anyone for this. We are getting ready to put links to GED study materials onto our site, just to round things out a bit. However, if we are to maintain academic records and provide the tutoring we believe is necessary, we hope to recoup our costs plus a small amount to be used to improve the services. Free is one thing. Useful is another.
