Has anybody taken the test for a Class B non-commercial Texas drivers license?
Q. Has anybody taken the test for a Class B non-commercial Texas drivers license? I think the behind-the-wheel part will be pretty predictable, but what about the written test? The DPS person told me on the phone to study Chapter 15 of the Texas Drivers Handbook, but it's almost entirely about commercial vehicles, and it is full of stuff like where lights have to be mounted on trucks, and equipment requirements for trailers and farm tractors, neither of which I have. Am I going to be tested on this??? Jiminy crickets! And am I going to be tested on "regular" driving stuff like what signs look like? I remember a defensive driving class I took about 15 years ago, where they asked what color a yield sign is. I confidently answered, "yellow," but found out they'd changed them to red and white at some point. I know a yield sign when I see it, yellow or red--am I going to be expected to color one in?
A. you will get tested on all of it. The only difference is you are not driving for hire, but you still need to know it. I carry a CDL class A with doubles,triples,tankers,hazmat, passenger,towing, and motorcycle endorsements. Just in case I jump into anything I might need it for. The only thing you retest on is the hazmat stuff. You do need to get a physical IF you do drive for hire though but most people get one every couple of years anyway.
