A. Tips are from the customer to the clerk, not to the Business. Good tips are an incentive to treat customers better, as more tips are garnered. Confiscating these tips teaches one thing: that it doesn't matter how you treat the customer, and that management is All Powerful and staffed by Assholes and this resentment shows up in bad customer service. Tips thrown into the register do not count on the register tape. IOW, these tips are probably simply pocketed and not declared. So not only is the DD management over there screwing its employees, the management is probably not paying taxes on these tips.
