EGA correspondence course?

Q. My EGA region (Greater Pacific) is sponsoring the EGA group correspondence course called "Chess Anyone?" by Dale Sokolow. It is a chessboard done in blackwork. I am thinking of taking it. Has anyone else done it yet? Or has anyone taken a course from Dale Sokolow?

A. I do not belong to EGA so I can not answer the question. I do have a question to add though. Can this pattern be bought in a local store, through mail order or whatever? I have been looking for a chess board, blackwork pattern for ages and have not been able to find one. If any one has any information, could you please share it. There is a gorgeous blackwork chess board in one of the original issues of New Stitches. I did it for my father for Christmas, backed it with Black Velvet and this way it is a portable chess board. If you need to know the exact issue, I can check when I get back home from the office. I believe it was in one of the first 10 issues (I used to buy it faithfully when it first came out but it got real expensive here in the US). But you could joing EGA! Membership is open to stitchers of all ability levels. The cost is quite reasonable. If there is no local chapter near you, you can join as a Member-At-Large (MAL). Either way you could then acquire this design, and enjoy other benefits as well. For more information about EGA, see their web site at: http://www.needlearts.com/ega/ Don't know if anyone has answered you yet, but you can become a member-at-large, not affiliated with a chapter. This is better than nothing because you will get the quarterly "Needlearts" and also can take individual correspondence courses. If you need the address or anything of the headquarters, It may be beneficial to check with your region on this as well. Most regions will have an Education Chairman or someone who will know if any chapters within the region are looking for help filling a GCC. It's also a good way for a chapter member to take a course that they missed out on, or isn't planned for their own chapter.
