Correspondence Courses ?

Q. I am looking for inexpensive correspondence courses from regionally accredited universities. Any suggestions? The least expensive that I have found is $60/ credit hour, but they don't have a very wide selection of courses.

A. I tried a simple programming course from NRI. I never received answers to the questions I mailed in. Never have i been so completely ignored by a "school" as by this one. Caution is advised when enrolling in these correspondence courses. I am still fighting with NRI. They are attempting to charge me for months after I sent in the request to withdraw.. Have you tried the University of Wisconsin Extension? They have a wide variety of such courses. They probably aren't the cheapest, but I've done a couple and found them well-organized. http://www.uwex.edu/ Trusting sort that I am, I guess I believed the cover of the book, whose subtitle is "A guide to over 10,000 correspondence courses." Since there were no takers on my "do the research" offer, perhaps I'll do it. (pause) So I just did the first ten (out of about 120), and here are the findings. As predicted, quite a wide range in the cost of correspondence courses. Adams State: $70 per unit Arizona State: $72 per unit Athabasca: $90 (US) per unit Auburn: $37 per unit Ball State: $93 per unit Brigham Young: $72 per unit Caldwell: $230 per unit Cal State Dominguez Hills: $40 per unit Cal State Sacramento: $19 per unit Central Michigan University: $150 per unit
