looking for accredited law school correspondence
Q. i am looking for an accredited correspondence law school . I am from texas have read about many schools that offer classes but can't sit for bar or they close up shop leaving students holding the bag.
A. The American Bar Association will not provide accreditation for correspondence work. Hence, as most states follow the ABA, you cannot sit for the Bar exam with a "by mail" diploma. California is an exception (when isn't it). In California, there are some Law Schools accredited by the California Bar, and others which are not accredited at all. The California Bar provides special attention to those who attend unaccredited law schools, such as the First Year Bar Exam ("baby bar") which must be passed before a student can continue on beyond first-year work at an unaccredited institution. Some unaccredited schools have remarkably good results with students taking the Bar exams, both first year and the "real" one. Some are even showing much higher pass rates than some ABA-accredited schools, which as far as I'm concerned is a genuine disgrace. Check 'em out; you might even find one worthwhile. MAJOR CAVEAT: Only problem is that you will likely never be able to base a law practice anywhere except California. Hey, you might enjoy the weather, especially if you're now anywhere near the Gulf Coast. :) Good question. How about that. My only suggestion is that you check with the courts and agencies involved (as well as the Texas Bar) before setting yourself up. Remember my stated credentials in this area: genuine law school dropout. Of course, the US Supreme Court will grant authority to practice before it -- with a VERY impressive-looking document -- to anyone who can legitimately practice in any US jurisdiction. Don't know about other federal stuff.
